What's Missing?

Written by Sandy Navarre | Print | E-mail

We’re not missing the snow that’s certain. We’re not missing the cold or the wet; there’s still too much of that. What we are missing is YOU, all of you, at the club meetings!

February meeting

In February the club met at the Four Season’s Restaurant in Manitowoc. A board of directors was elected including, Sandy Navarre, Terry & Judy Zandt, and Pollee Bugni, with Shari Depas as an Alternate to serve for two years.  It was also decided that the past president should serve one year as a consultant.

It was decided to again ask for ideas for a new logo to represent the club. The old logo with the LONG horse tail was thought to be a bit out of date. We will also make up new pamphlets with the updated officers and club website and we hope to have them for the Manitowoc Horse-A-Rama in May where our president and his family plan to pass them out.

A new club logo was introduced at the March 2011 meetingMarch meeting

In March we met at Great Lakes Wellness Center in Hortonville.  There was a short meeting held prior to touring the clinic and a talk from one of the vets on “Emergency Practices”.  A ver timely topic was deworming and fecal testing which is covered in an article on the center's website.  At the meeting we voted on the new logo.  It’s very modern looking with a large SE intertwined with a horse symbol. The design was one of two submitted by our president’s other half.  We plan to start adding it to the newsletter and all new club items in the future.

There was a lot of talk about the upcoming clinic to be held at the Depas farm.  This will be given by Shari on showmanship and halter with questions taken and perhaps demos on jumping and obstacle. Shari will have seasoned horses for us to try hands on or you may bring your own horse.  (Please have a current coggins.)  Look for more information in the next newsletter and under events on our website.

Open Show

We also discussed the open show to be held in Manitowoc on June 4.  We had a couple of new members that were very excited about the show. It is starting to look very professional and we’re hoping for a large turnout.  The show will have classes in halter and performance for adults and youth (see showbill). We’re looking into having music to show by.  We will have a food booth.  There will be stalls available (for a small fee) to those who want them.   We must bring our own shavings and clean out the stall when we leave.  There is camping overnight available.  We are working on getting a tack vendor to be there.  We will have a photographer present for those pictures of you showing that you can never take yourself.   If you’d like to volunteer there are plenty of places where the club could use help.  Please contact JoAnn Spransy or Pollee Bugni if you’d like to help.  We also need sponsors to help pay for the trophies and ribbons.  If you’d like to sponsor a class or know a business or farm that would like to sponsor, then download our sponsor form (click here).

In short this show is going to be a terrific event. We’ve tried to include everything but are we MISSING something --- are we missing YOU?
